Soap Recipes

These are my favourite soap recipes which have served me (and many others) well. They are all special for different reasons, and can be mixed and matched with various essential and fragrance oils, colours and other additives to create unique and beautiful soaps.

This is an on-going list - I will be adding to it as I have time, and will also include links to soaps I have made using the various recipes.

I hope it will be a good resource for those wanting to make their own soap at home.

Happy Soaping!

IMPORTANT:
Before making your first batch of soap you must make yourself familiar with basic soap-making techniques and safety precautions. Sodium hydroxide is a dangerous processing agent which, if not used correctly, can cause serious injury or death. Here are two videos by the "Soap Queen" to watch.
Most of the recipes will be written as percentages of oils. To calculate the water and sodium hydroxide amounts, please use a lye calculator. This is a simple and reliable one.

OLIVE OIL (80%)

Commonly known as a Bastille Bar, this is a very gentle soap suitable for babies and those with sensitive skin. I've included two recipes, the first uses coconut oil, and the second (my favourite) substitutes the coconut oil for Shea butter for those who are allergic to coconut.

Bastille Bar with Coconut Oil

800g olive oil (80%)
100g coconut oil (10%)
100g castor oil (10%)

300g distilled water (water discount)
131g sodium hydroxide

20g sodium lactate (mixed into lye before pouring into batter)

Bastille Bar with Shea Butter

(Superfatted at 5%)

800g Olive Oil (80%)
100g Shea Butter (10%)
100g Castor Oil (10%)

300g distilled water (water discount)
